    Runaway Goldfish!!

Edmond was stopped at a red light on his way home from work and was thinking about the horrible day he had. His co worker Kevin got the big promotion that he had wanted for months. The light turned green, Edmond hit the gas and he drove off.
When he got home Edmond walked over to the sink, filled up a glass of tap water and drank it in one gulp. He gave his Goldfish a pinch of fish food and micro waved some leftover chicken from KFC.
Edmond lay down on the bed in his room and turned on the big screen. He started to flip through the stations until he found his favorite sitcom. He turned the volume up and took a bite out of the chicken.
Edmond could hardly control his laughter during the show which was a problem because his wife had just kicked him out of the house last week and he had to try and keep the noise coming from his room to a minimum. This was hardly an easy task for Edmond with his loud "Ha Hah Ha" type laugh that was very hard to miss if you were a tourist walking down the long hall to fill up your bucket of ice.
All of a sudden Edmond heard a faint noise coming from afar.
    "Edmond! Hey Ed!"
Edmond turned down the TV, got up and walked to the door and looked through the peep hole, but there was no one there.
"Edmond" a voice said from the other side of the room
Edmond spun around in one quick motion.
    "Who's there!" he yelled
He walked slowly over towards the voice and called out once more.
    The voice spoke again
    "Hello Edmond its me, Peter"
Edmond looked down at the counter and his Goldfish Peter was floating there, silently staring up at him.
"Listen Edmond, you feed me every day and I am very thankful for it, but sometimes I cant eat all the food you give me and it slowly starts building up until it fills the whole bowl. You really need to clean my water. Please?"
    "Maybe later Peter. Ok?"
    "Wait! Wait! Don't leave!"
Edmond walked back over to his bed and layed back down. He drifted off into a deep sleep and didn't wake up until 11 'o clock the next morning. He was able to do this because it was the weekend, and he always slept in on the weekends. When he got up, Edmond walked over and pored himself a cup of coffee, but when he went to feed Peter, he wasn't there.
"Oh no. this can't be happening" said Edmond
He started running around the room looking franticly for Peter calling his name. He didn't care about disturbing the neighbors, he just wanted to find his fish. Edmond looked over towards the bathroom and saw a small trail of water going through the door. He walked over cautiously as though there were some sort of monster behind the door, even though he was just looking for a tiny Goldfish. When he walked through the door he found that the trail of water continued up into the bathtub and down the drain.
On the floor by the toilet was a note scrawled in what looked like chicken scratches. It read
"My dear friend Edmond, I am terribly sorry, but I just can't stay. I asked you nicely to change the water in my bowl, not once, not twice, but many, many times and each time you ignored me, and Edmond, my dear friend, I just couldn't stay in that type of living condition. Goodbye Edmond. – Peter."
Edmond Dropped to his knees and started to cry. His only friend, his only companion was gone, and there was nothing he could do about it. He sat there for half an hour and finally pulled himself together, and stood up. He no longer wanted to watch his favorite television show, or finish the work he promised his boss that he'd do.
He was all alone in the world. He had no friends. One if you counted Kevin, although he wasn't very fond of him in the least bit. And he stole his big promotion!
One month later, Edmond was starting to feel little better, he had started making some new friends and he had a new outlook on life, He did not want to live in the same old boring lifestyle of work, TV, sleep, and laziness. Instead Edmond started taking some risks, living on the edge. He even went to his boss and asked for a promotion. His boss gave him the promotion and Edmond moved out of the motel and back into a nice little house, where he could laugh as much as wanted without disturbing any neighbors.
He even went to the pet store and bought a new Goldfish when he was ready. He fed the new fish every day and every night he changed the water in the bowl. This was a little much, but the fish was happy, and Edmond was happy too. He and the fish would have long conversations about work and life, The fish never talked back to him but he didn't mind. He knew the fish would always be there to listen to him.
