Under Reason's Command (Delusion)
He won't tell me I'm beautiful
But I can read it in his face
Though praise is never sent my way
There are subtler things my heart can trace
He won't say he loves my eyes of blue
But I can anticipate the words
Imprisoned behind his iron lips
Like the broken cries of a wingless bird
He won't run his fingers through my hair
But I can tell you why he clasps his hands
It's an everlasting inner struggle
To keep Passion under Reason's command
He won't admit his love for me
But I can see it in his smile
He won't undo the Beast's curse
Though we've been waiting for a while
He won't call me "sugar" or "honey pie"
Lest his sweet talk turn to bile
And he'll never say I'm beaufiul;
His only allowance is denial.
He won't tell me I'm beautiful
But I can watch as his life toys with him
Even if courage lets me speak my love
It won't replace what I've destroyed in him.
But I can read it in his face
Though praise is never sent my way
There are subtler things my heart can trace
He won't say he loves my eyes of blue
But I can anticipate the words
Imprisoned behind his iron lips
Like the broken cries of a wingless bird
He won't run his fingers through my hair
But I can tell you why he clasps his hands
It's an everlasting inner struggle
To keep Passion under Reason's command
He won't admit his love for me
But I can see it in his smile
He won't undo the Beast's curse
Though we've been waiting for a while
He won't call me "sugar" or "honey pie"
Lest his sweet talk turn to bile
And he'll never say I'm beaufiul;
His only allowance is denial.
He won't tell me I'm beautiful
But I can watch as his life toys with him
Even if courage lets me speak my love
It won't replace what I've destroyed in him.
