Working on something for Electronica competition
But I really want to go into the Electronica competition with something different. I'm not really into techno or electronica these days, but I do have a lot of old material that is begging to be updated. Right now, I'm thinking of submitting one of two songs.
One option is an update of a song called Domination that I co-wrote with my longtime friend and collaborator, Christian Beach, back when we were teenagers who somehow found ourselves in a techno-rap combo. Actually, you can watch a truly awful live performance of Domination from 1989 or 1990 on YouTube.
The title Domination is a bit of wordplay. The song is simply about a lost love that continues to linger inside your head and your heart no matter how hard you try to move on...how the person dominates your very existence even after they are out of your life. So even though the word domination has sexual and violent connotations, it is used here far more innocently. However, as teenagers trying to act more badass than we really were, we liked the idea of using the title to trick people into thinking the song was a bit on the wild side.
The other option is a tamer, instrumental version of a sort of techno-industrial song I wrote around 1993 called Gone Too Far. The original lyrics are pretty dark, as was the tone of the music. I want the 2009 version to be brighter and danceable.
Right now, I'm leaning toward Gone Too Far since I have already started working on it. But I hope to have something submitted by the end of next week.
