8 Professional Voiceover Talent Tips

Becoming a professional voiceover talent wasn’t something I could directly relate to since I’m not a professional voiceover talent. However, with the help of my friends in the entertainment industry, I can now offer aspiring voiceover talents with eight helpful tips to become an industry professional. If at anytime you need clarification or a more in-depth explanation of a tip, please, refer to my article “Professional Voiceover Talent Guide” on Talent Trove. These tips are purposely broken down and made more concise for easy reading and reference. You might not understand some, but that is because you cannot jump to one step without completing the previous ones. Take each one seriously and in order and I’ll “hear” from you soon…

Start by reading anything you can get your hands on including articles, books and manuals. Just improve your reading skills.

Improve your ability to read aloud in a quick, articulate, emotional and fluid manner. Practice by yourself, in front of others and record yourself for playback and critique. Rid yourself of fear.

Time to get professional help from an experienced voiceover talent. Take classes and/or get a mentor. Learn proper technique and further your understanding of the skill and industry.

Continue to refine your voiceover talent on your own with the techniques you have learned thus far. Expand your repertoire by reading different scripts and deciding what directions to take your voices. Time to refine.

Start creating demos of your work and saving them as MP3s, CDs, and on sites like Talent Trove. Have at least 3-4 voices on a demo.

Increase exposure by joining an agency, union or online sites like Talent Trove.

Start scooping out your employment options: jingles, commercials, video games, audio books, training videos, etc.

Know the company and audience your voice will be representing when searching for work. Get creative with your voice. Understand what is relevant and attractive and why.

Again, these are just some brief points taken from my article. If you are serious about a career as a professional voiceover talent, please, read “Professional Voiceover Talent Guide” on Talent Trove. I hope you enjoyed this post and good luck in your endeavors.
