Make the Mental Music Connection with Fans

Make the mental music connection with fans

Let's be honest, most musicians hate comparing themselves to other music artists. Sound familiar? I wholeheartedly believe that you are truly a gifted and unique individual. However, if you believe that comparing your music to others, you should reconsider. Making the mental music connections is the key to reaching an audience already indulged in a genre of music.

According to the Berkeley Lab, "Humans retrieve information best when it can be linked to other related information." The human brain has a better time understanding and filing in new sights, sounds and smells with a familiar reference point. So basically, you're helping yourself by comparing your music to others who are already established and accomplished.

"Memory is a dynamic process. It arises from reminders and cues." says Allen Barker.

Fans need clues. People who enjoy your music also enjoy other artists of the same genre. Artists familiarize their sound in order to apply to the masses. So tapping into the mental links that already exist in the minds of fans who support other similar-sounding artists will give you are larger audience.
